Smallville's Lionel Killed!! And will Lex be next to go???

We all knew it was coming, but Lex's Luthor's (Michael Rosenbaum) murder of his father, Lionel (John Glover) , was still a monumental event in the history of The CW's Smallville. In recent episodes, Lex has become more and more obsessed with finding out just who Traveler really is, and when Lionel lied to him about it yet again, it was more than Lex could bear. He finally shoved his father out the window - which puts him even more firmly into the "evil" column on our checklist...

So when will the big Lex vs. Clark (Tom Welling) showdown take place? Who knows - but hopefully it will be pretty soon, as Michael Rosenbaum is rumored to only be appearing in a few episodes next season. But for now, Rosenbaum is likely to appear in all four of the remaining season 7 episodes, as his character develops more and more into the villain we all love to hate.

With Lionel dead and Lex taking a back-seat in the series next season, we're all left to wonder - who will be the source of conflict for season 8? But with the great writing that Smallville is known for, we're sure they'll think of something.

*Note* I heard today through the Grapevine that Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) will be killed off next season contrary to what we where told a few weeks ago.
