Chris McKeown Chris McKeown, the owner and Editor for us here at SciFi Updates, will be sitting in on a panel at SyFy Radio tonight starting at 10pm EST. The panel will be discussing what went wrong with FedCon USA: why it failed and was closed before even being underway twenty hours, and also the actions of the convention owner, Tim Brazeal, before and after the convention. The show will be live and listeners are asked to call in and give their input.
McKeown had been the Public Relations Director for FedCon USA, but around 5 weeks prior to the event resigned and exited from the convention completely. McKeown for the most part had been silent about the convention after his departure, until a TrekUnited.com forum post by FedCon USA Manager and MC Richard Anderson tried to shift blame for the disaster in Chris's direction. McKeown responded to the post saying " I have just been waiting for someone to say exactly this type of thing and I have to say thank you for saying so Richard, so I can go on and open this can of worms I been sitting on for over a month." Mckeown further posted "during a FedCon USA staff meeting Tim said he was going to cancel James Callis and others from the lineup about a week before the convention. (Their contracts called for at least a 30 day notice of cancellation by either party). So basically Tim was leading the guest on and using them to sell more tickets and was going to break the contracts." It was at that point, McKeown says, that he saw the writing on the wall and pulled out of the convention. As was witnesed on the FedCon USA website, Guest Stars were cancelled about a week before the convention. However, after a major outcry from the fans 2 stars were added back to the line up - Aaron Douglas and James Callis from the hit TV series Battlestar Galactica - but in the end they never recieved their advance monies or their plane tickets. Aaron Douglas even went as far as calling Tim Brazeal a liar on the FedCon USA forums - which, by the way, are now closed to further posts by all users. So tune in tonight to SyFy Radio at 10pm EST to listen and join in.
