MGM has been looking for franchise partners for a planned remake of their late 80's powerhouse, Robocop. They've been passing out slick advertising flyers which you can look at below, pointing out merchandising opportunities for potential investors. The pamphlet clearly describes the new film as a re-invention of the original story, which seems to indicate a remake, rather than another sequel...
The original films was released in 1987, and was followed by two sequels. It starred Peter Weller as Officer Alex Murphy, a first-class cop who is shot down in the line of duty. When Murphy's nearly lifeless body is chosen for an experimental government program, the line between man and machine is erased completely, and the world is introduced to Robocop. While the cyborg is supposed to start his new life with a blank slate, drama ensues when some memories prove to be too strong to be deleted. MGM is hoping to have a release date for the new Robocop sometime in 2010.
