In a bit of unfortunate news that we've been expecting to hear, David Eick and Ronald D. Moore announced that the coming fourth season of Battlestar Galactica will be the last. Though they've been denying just that for the past few weeks, stars Edward James Olmos (Adama) and Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) had already leaked the news to the press. The official press release said that the "show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle, and finally, an end. . .
Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms." The show will conclude with a 22 episode final season, which will allow the writers plenty of time to wrap up the storylines. The third season will begin in November with a two-hour movie premiere focusing on Battlestar Pegasus, with the rest of the third season set to begin airing early next year. Eick already has more work lined up with the NBC series Bionic Woman, set to premiere this fall. No word yet on how Moore will be keeping busy.
