Lucy Hale We recently had a chance to catch up with Bionic Woman star, Lucy Hale. Playing the younger sister (Becca Sommers) of a hero has it's perks, and it's good to be Lucy right now. Charming and vivacious, we couldn't get enough of her easy laugh and laid-back manner. She was only too happy to gush about everything from her career, to her future, and even her celebrity crushes. She's a girl after our own hearts, with her love of all things fantasy, sci-fi, and country (we thought we were the only ones!!) Keep an eye on Miss Hale - she's got big dreams and the talent to make them happen. Sign us up for the fan club...
Starting with the topic we all want to chat about - what's up with Bionic Woman? Are they still looking at renewing it? Do you know yet? Well, you know what, I'm with all the fans! Like, I have no idea - basically the studios are just, I don't know, they're just hanging out right now because of the strike, so I haven't really heard an official word. I've heard that they want to go ahead and complete 13 episodes, which is what we've been picked up for, and then I've heard other things. So until the strike is over, you can't really be too sure, you know? If Bionic Woman continues (and we hope it does!) do you think that you might end up with a steady love interest on the show? Ooh! That'd be exciting! I think the first step would have to be me finding out about Jamie... That'd be cool to maybe even work with her in what she does... Maybe the next step would be a love interest - that'd be fun! In the last episode, you had a great part, with meeting the guys at the lodge and that whole storyline. And it was good because they could bring your character out. A lot of times in the show, your character's that stereotypical teenager, I guess, rebelling against everything, and has to be smart about everything, so it was nice to see more of her personality coming through. We had a good time - but it was really cold outside!! ... I think Becca's misunderstood by the audience as being very cliche, but there's a lot more to her, I think. She's a really sarcastic girl, she's really funny, and she can be fun. She's not always a little brat. After numerous small parts in series like The OC, Drake & Josh, etc., what's it like finally having a full-time job? It's really thrilling ... I mean, it gets kind of crazy sometimes because the schedule can change at any second, but it's all part of the ride, I guess. Since you're on the set there, how's it feel: you being so young, and all the other cast members and the folks around you being a bit older than you are. Is it a bit tiring? What do you do? Well, I mean, everyone is really welcoming. Michelle [Ryan] and I would hang out a little bit, of course she was really really busy. They all treated me like their little sister I guess. But at times it was kind of sad, that I didn't have anyone to be silly with, or to talk to about anything. You know, one of the shows I worked on for the Disney channel, Wizards of Waverly Place - that was great. There were people my age, and it was just a really good set, a really good vibe on set. I see you've also been on Nick's Drake & Josh? (laughs) Oh yeah, that was actually one of my first jobs! I had, like, a one-liner, and I have never been so nervous in my life! (laughs) What other projects do you have in the pipe right now? I know you've got a movie about to come out, right? Right, it is. I just finished up my first movie, it was before I booked Bionic Woman, so it was this past summer. It's Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and I play Effie, who is Alexis Bledel's little sister in the movie, and she's completely opposite of Becca on Bionic Woman, so it was really fun to play two contrasting characters. And then I booked Bionic woman, but before then I just did little guest spots here and there: How I Met Your Mother, The OC, and I've done Disney and Nickelodien, so it's cool to actually be on a series now, be a series regular, and have a steady job (laughs) We heard you were trying out for some other parts too? Yeah, one's a horror movie, and one's a cheerleading movie called Fire It Up... They're both really different, but we'll see how things work out... But, actually, well, I'm a singer as well, so I'm starting to record some. I think I'm going to do it independently, and like set up a MySpace music, and just try to get exposure music-wise, and figure out what my sound is... The first time I was ever on TV, I was on a show called American Juniors, which is a singing show. And so, I've had fans that have kept up with me since then, and I was like 14, so I think it's about time I give them some music. It's been a while! What kind of genre do you sing in? Well, I'm still sort of finding my sound. I really like acoustic music, and I'm a fan of country, so I'm gonna try and incorporate that into what I do. Do you have a dream job - any kind of movie that's either going into production or one that you would like to see go into production - anything at all, what would you just LOVE to get in? Well, there's a movie coming out in 2009 that I would have loved to be a part of. It's called Twilight, and it's based on a series of books. And unfortunately, all the parts were already cast by the time I found out about it. That would have been fun to do - I think it's going to be as big as Harry Potter, so that's exciting. But, my dream job, I'd love to do a musical one day. Big fan of musicals, and it would be fun to incorporate both my acting and singing. So you're talking about getting into music and other things, but where do you really want to see yourself in 10 years? Basically I just want to make movies and maybe even produce TV later down the line, do some writing, maybe a tour with my music. And start a family! That's really important to me. And it sounds like, from what you were saying about Twilight, are you really a fantasy fan at heart, yourself? I am!! You know what, I am!! It's fun to pretend you're a little kid, you get to use your imagination and live in a world that's not real. Sometimes we need that. Yeah, we do! To escape this crazy world!! (laughs) Tell us a few of your favorite TV series and some of your favorite movies that's along those genres. Let's see, favorites, I think Heroes is great, Bionic Woman of course.. You know what movie I really love? ET. That's sci-fi, right? That's classic, and Donnie Darko... You've GOT to see Donnie Darko!! It's Jake Gyllenhall, a while ago, and it's creepy, it's really creepy. You've got to see it, add that to your list of movies. It's really good! Hmm, well what celebrity do you think is HOT? Really hot? Oh my goodness! That is a great question, I've got so many, let me see if I can narrow it down. Um, I really like Mark Walhberg, I think he's soooo sexy. And I like James Marsden, he's so cute! And who else? Patrick Dempsey! I like the older guys... And what about a favorite place? My grandparents live in the middle of nowhere and I love it!! I love going out there and just relaxing... Thanks Lucyfor taking the time and for giving us such a awesome interview. Guys make sure to stop by Lucy's site at http://www.lucyhale.com/ and sign up so you can keep up on what Lucy's up too.
