Two new posters for the upcoming "Underworld" prequel, entitled "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans," has been released. While the first poster featured Bill Nighy as Viktor, the first new one, shows a familiar shot of Sonja (Rhona Mitra). The tagline states: "Every war has a beginning." And in the second new poster is of Michael Sheen. The tagline states: "Every war has a beginning."
The story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Michael Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
Kate Beckinsale and director Len Wiseman will not return to act and direct, but Wiseman has signed on to produce. Instead, Patrick Tatopolous has taken over helming duties; he and Wiseman have worked together on the first two films.
The film will hit theaters on January 23rd, 2009.
