A former Superman as well as a former Supergirl are planning to converge on Smallville in season seven. Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent / Superman on the show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman will be guest starring in a nefarious role, while the big screens first Supergirl, Helen Slater, is being wooed to play new Supergirl Laura Vandervoort’s Kryptonian aunt.
Smallville has a history of bringing in actors associated with other adaptations of the Superman comic.
In an effort to step outside of the box, actress Allison Mack has signed on to direct an episode for Smallville‘s seventh season, which is slated to premiere on September 27.
The 24-year-old actress said in her official blog site that she will be directing the 20th episode of the series this year. She decided to try her luck on the other side of the camera after realizing she has never placed herself in a situation where she is doing something new.
“He’s a wonderful actor … and he became available,” Silverman said. “I started talking to him before he was available. … I didn’t have any idea — when he told me he was available, I was like ‘What? I don’t understand. You’re a star on a huge TV show.’ I didn’t quite understand what was going on there.” Silverman was referring to the now-famous incident in which Washington used a homophobic slur during an argument with fellow Grey’s Anatomy cast mate Patrick Dempsey. Under intense pressure, Washington later apologized and even made a public service announcement warning others of the power of words. But, his contract was not renewed, leaving him free to join the cast of Bionic Woman.
Silverman believes that Washington’s acting ability speaks for itself, and viewers will become so involved with his character on the show that they’ll be able to leave the controversy behind. “The bottom line is he’s a wonderful actor . . . [and] that’s what I think people will respond to,” he said.
with her escape pod and she wound up staying in suspended animation for 16 years. Clark is unaware of her existance until she makes her appearance in town, awoken from her slumber by a disastrous flood which activates the wake cycle of her escape pod. Rather than looking after Kal-El, he ends up having to look out for her, now that he is the eldest in the family. It proves to be difficult, due to her advanced abilities (including flight) and her obsession with pop culture.
Smallville returns to the CW with new episodes later this year.
