Smallville “Booster”

Synopsis: After everything that happened with the VRA, Lois (Erica Durance) tells Clark (Tom Welling) it’s best to make Clark Kent forgettable and awkward so people don’t suspect he’s The Blur. However, the two are stunned when a fame-hungry superhero from the future, Booster Gold (guest star Eric Martsolf), sweeps into town and begins making saves and posing for press ops, completely winning over the city of Metropolis. Booster begins his campaign to take The Blur’s place as the ‘World’s Greatest Superhero’ and tries to charm Lois into writing a story about him, but she’s not having his antics and begins her own campaign for The Blur. During one of Booster’s saves, an alien weapon in the form of a scarab falls from a truck and fuses itself to a boy named Jaime Reyes (guest star Jaden Brandt Bartlett), turning him into the Blue Beetle. Unfortunately, Jaime is unable to control the suit and Blue Beetle starts attacking Metropolis.

The episode was written by Geoff Johns and was directed by Welling.

Martha Kent and Perry White Return to Smallville

And as a kicker O’Toole won’t be alone when she guest stars on Smallville, as she’ll be joined by her real life husband, Michael McKean. McKean will be reprising his old role as Perry White, which he played once before on the series.

O’Toole and McKean will guest star on episode 21 this season. Smallville executive producer Brian Peterson tells says that Perry White’s return to the series will bring him, “closer to his destiny” and show Perry’s introduction to Lois Lane.

Smallville Just May Get a Season 10

“I think creatively, we’ve been happy with the show. And it’s gotten to the point where Friday nights have improved for us, so it looks good. But we don’t know, because it’s really too early. It’s January and we don’t have to make these decisions until May. But it’s increased our adult 18-34 and it certainly has increased our men 18-34 on Friday nights. Creatively, I think it’s been in a good place. I think Tom [Welling]’s still having a good time with it. I think he’s enthusiastic about it. So, we’ll see where we are a few months from now.”

She went to say: “Clearly, we’re going to have a great season finale, as we would for any year, and whether or not it will be a show finale, we don’t know yet. We haven’t really talked about it, because they’re not that far along yet in the storylines, but I think it will be a good season finale for sure. And if the show doesn’t come back, I think it will be a sort of really last minute decision, because either development [for new series] was great or the show wasn’t doing as well on Friday nights. But we still have a whole half a season to go before we have to determine that.”

Is Smallville getting Green Lantern and Sandman?

We already knew that the Justice Society of America storyline will be airing in February as a two hour TV-Movie Special called “Absolute Justice” and it would would introduce Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Stargirl – and we knew more characters would be appearing. Well we now know thanks to the trailer that Sandman – the original, yes that gas mask wearing Wesley Dodds. But the real kicker that has us all at the edge of our seats was a glimpse (the kind you miss if you blink) of a man’s hand wearing a very familiar unforgettable green ring.

Green Lantern, Sandman, Doctor Fate

Even though Smallville producers have noted over and over that they can’t use several characters currently in the pipeline for movies, and yes that has included none other than Green Lantern. The Green Lantern movie is about to go into production, and will be starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. But it seems that the powers that be at DC and Warner Bros. have eased their restrictions just a bit, as it is very obvious that the ring shown belongs to the original Green Lantern who just so happens to be Alan Scott a Justice Society of America member.

Given that we’ve only heard about Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Stargirl meeting Clark Kent, it seems more than likely that Sandman and Green Lantern will only be appearing in flashbacks, and at this junction that maybe all we see of Alan Scott and Wesley Dodds. Still just their appearance in any fashion is notable for any DC Comics fans, and continues to rise Smallville’s status on the growing television version of the DC Universe.

Stargirl and Hawkman Heading to Smallville

But the news doesn't stop there, guess who is portraying Hawkman? None other than Stargate SG1's Michael Shanks. Go ahead and scream you Shanks fans, I know you want too! And yes that is Shanks in the photo. Anywho Dr. Fate will be played by Brent Stait, and Stargirl will be played by Britt Irvin. Also more Justice Society characters are expected to appear in the episodes.

Johns last season's "Legions" episode that featured members of DC Comics "Legion of Super-Heroes" is so far one of the best episodes ever of Smallville's 9 year run. John's script was heavy on the inside jokes and comic references, and all the actors did a fantastic job portraying some of DC's more obscure heroes.

So make sure to tune in as I am sure you won't be disappointed.

‘Smallville’ Star Coming to ‘Heroes’

"When Sylar meets his father, he’s going to see a path ahead of him that he doesn’t want to take," reveals an insider. "He has a lot more in common with his father than he realized."

Producer Bryan Fuller, who will be returning to the show explained that "Heroes" will now once again be character-driven. "It’s not necessarily a reboot as much as it is going back to the basic spirit of the show and pulling people back in," he explained. "We’re also going to tell fewer stories per episode. We’re going to limit it to three or four with one big one that you can wrap the stories around. We’re altering the structure of the show so that there’s a very clear A story that takes up a larger percentage of the show so that that story gets traction."

He also talked about what we can expect from the upcoming episodes. Fuller said: "People will die. And some will return. Matt’s wife [Janice] comes back. We’ll find out what happens when you have a superbaby."

But even with this news at this point I’m not sure the show can be salvaged and I don’t think any star can help get the ratings back, the fan base for the show has just lost all interest and are just tired of all the none followed through promises for the last two seasons. But we are glad to see Glover back in action and hopefully this time the son won’t kill him off.

What do you think?

‘Smallville’ Season 9? Could Be

But now EW.com’s Michael Ausiello says the TV version of the Man of Steel could be sticking around for at least another year. Most of us who are long time fans feel the series has improved greatly this season, and asked by one such excited fan if the show could return for Season 9, Ausiello replies, "I hear The CW will likely take the don’t-fix-if-not-broke approach and keep its Thursday line-up intact next season," implying both Smallville and Supernatural will be back for the 2009-2010 season.

Also the CW may be more keen on keeping "Smallville" now because "The Graysons" project they had in development has been scrapped and laid to rest. That potential series about a young Dick Grayson before he becomes Robin the Boy Wonder was perceived as a potential replacement for "Smallville". However, with "Smallville" still pulling in the ratings for the network and "The Graysons" no longer happening, The CW may be thinking it’s just best to stick with their proven series and Thursday night line up.

Ausiello also says that a recent rumor that The CW had already renewed "Supernatural" for a fifth season is not true. However, considering the very respectable numbers that show is pulling in this season, it would be a surprise if it didn’t come back next fall.

So are you looking forward to another new season of Smallville?

‘Legion of Super Heroes’ Coming to ‘Smallville’

Smallville
Well the guys over at IGN Comics recently spoke to prolific comic book write Geoff Johns. Johns has written an episode of Smallville for this season, which will see the introduction of DC Comics’ Legion of Super Heroes into the series which is awesome news for us Smallville fans.

Asked about that episode, Johns said, "I’m actually in Vancouver all week for the filming. Wait until you see it. So far it’s been amazing to be involved with the writers in Los Angeles, particularly Darren Swimmer. And the cast and crew have been awesome – Tom [Welling], Allison [Mack] and Kristin [Kreuk] are in my episode and they are freaking amazing. Tom came up with a fantastic addition to the Legion Code, he impresses the hell out of me. He keeps the energy up on the set, keeps things fun, and he’s unbelievably smart. He approaches everything with incredible intelligence."

He also talked about the Smallville actors in which , Johns said, "Allison is not only an amazing actress, and she had to do some pretty intense things in this episode, she’s the nicest person ever. She’s also incredibly respectful of the fan base of the show and how far reaching it is. Every line she delivers makes you smile. Kristen is an unbelievable actress too. She delivered such a powerful scene Tuesday, it was more heartfelt than anything I could ever deliver on a page. She made the scene come to life. And, like Tom and Allison, [she’s] super nice."

Johns went on to add, "I love who they have playing the Legion. They look great. I’ll talk more about them when they’re announced. But they freaking rock. Legion rings, the villain’s weapon — holy s**t, wait until you see HIM– "Grife!", they are the Legion."

Johns was very happy about his experience on set, noting, "James Marshall, the executive producer up here, has put together an unbelievable crew. The crew up here is really a family, many of them having worked together for eight years. I’ve been up here for a week and I already feel like I’m a surrogate member. I’ve never enjoyed myself this much on a set, ever. Watching everyone work so hard to bring the Legion to life is a dream. But the superhero of the show for me has been the director, Glen Winter. I’m amazed to watch him, how instinctual he is on the set, how much he’s embraced the Legion, how he directs the actors and his shot choices… I worked for Richard Donner when I got out of school and he had an incredible instinct and talent for making the set come alive, making it all fun and really letting the love for the material shine through. Glen’s the same way. If there’s a season 9, I’d kill to do another episode with Glen. It’s been an unbelievable experience all around."

Asked if he had to make any tough compromises to make the Legion fit in the Smallville world, John replied, "I’m actually surprised by how faithful the Legionnaires will be to the comics. It’s really faithful to the comic book series. Who they are as people, what they do, it’s all in there. Obviously it’s going to be a little different because they’re just coming back for the first time to meet Clark. They’re uniforms are the Smallville versions, not spandex. But I’m really happy with how faithful it is. And writing the first live action of the Legion is an honor."

So will you be tuning in to see this episode when it airs?
