Why Genre Shows are Dying! Part 1

First off Hinman failed to mention any show that is on the SyFy Channel. Why is that Mikey? I'm starting to wonder about you boy. Now on with my rant on the subject at hand. Knight Rider, any true Sci-Fi fan knew that this show was doomed from the first 10 minutes of the pilot, I knuckled down and watched 4 episodes even though it made me want to puke my guts out in the new KIT the whole time I was watching, till I just couldn't take anymore. Pushing Daisies was a cute show and I watched it for the whole first season, but cuteness wears out quick, babies are cute too, but just think about one with a real humdinger of a stinky diaper, enough said there. By year two I would catch it at some point, some times months after the episode aired on the DVR. As for TSCC, season one was awesome, it was kicking much ass up to the season two premier,  and it was downhill from then on out, bad acting, bad storylines, even the way they would put the scenes together just sucked.

Fox's "Dollhouse," a sci-fi show that was suppose to be geared for the female gender. Ummm, how did that work out, it failed just as I knew it would. No offense intended ladies, but there just aren't enough true sci-fi fans of the fairer sex to sustain a TV series on the public air waves at this time. For most of us guys it just turned our stomachs inside out. I have a strong feeling that the up coming SyFy Channel's "Battlestar Galactica" spinoff series "Caprica" will turn out the same way as Dollhouse.

We also lost two series that was on the ABC Family Channel that very few talk about  when addressing  Genre ratings, the sad part is they were both good series. "Kyle XY" and  "The Middleman" where both excellent shows and in my opinion if they where on ABC's public air channels they would have survived and been here today gearing for a new season. We also lost "Stargate Atlantis" that was on none other than the SyFy Channel, not many talking about it either. The biggest problem with Atlantis was the constant change in Characters, also by the third season the storylines was getting very dull. And last but not least of shows we lost was the USA Networks "4400" series. Great show overall, but issues with some of the actors and storylines going dry helped lead this show to it demise.

As for existing shows, the CW's "Smallville" was moved from it's Thursday night slot to Friday night, so they could make room for another show geared for the ladies called the "Vampire Diaries." Smallville took a big hit in the ratings due to the move but it now seems the show ratings are climbing back up and it's fair to say that we will get at least one more season of Smallville, and yes the show is kicking more ass than normal so make sure to tune in, no matter what time slot it's in. As for Vampire Diaries, it's ratings are good, but it is not no where as popular as Smallville was when it was in that time slot, and the new series has hurt "Supernatural" in the ratings. As for Supernatural, if any of you have been watching lately can see that even the Winchester boy's are growing tired of the series and I suspect we will being the departure of Sam and Dean at the end of this season even if the series is renewed, which I doubt will happen.

Now for the big dogs. "Lost" is fixen to start it's finale season. Last season the episodes had gotten better than the two previous seasons, but it was to late, most folks had already moved on and wasn't willing to give LOST another chance. Heroes, will more than likely be renewed for a new season and yes the episodes have gotten better but I think it's to late and like LOST, the viewers they lost won't give Heroes a another chance and it's ratings will never be as high as they were before."V", to be honest it's to early for me to predict, but so far this new series is on the right track and I give it a A rating in all areas. "Flash Forward" I feel will flash out by the end of it's first season.

Tune in tomorrow and I'll cover more on TV series not mentioned in this article and give you the real scoop on whats wrong with most of the genre shows today and why they are dying. Till then just remember "It's all about the Sci-Fi Baby!!"

‘Legend of the Seeker’ Pilot Review

The cast are certainly likeable in their roles, although it did take the entire two hours for us to warm up to Zedd the wizard (Bruce Spence). Meanwhile, Kahlan (Bridget Regan) and Richard (Craig Horner) had us rooting for them from the first time we met them. To be sure, there is a certain cheese factor here (which isn’t necesarily a bad thing – didn’t we all love Hercules & Xena??), and some of the story elements pushed the boundaries of things that most of us would take for granted. Wasn’t it lovely for the soldiers to pause and allow that touching death scene? Did anyone else wish to own only those white clothes that would not only wash & repair themselves when the audience isn’t looking, but also jump back onto your skin when they’ve finished all that? And who wouldn’t smack their brother for taking the word of a stranger, over the word of his own kind & honest sibling??? This list could be a lot longer, believe me, but you get the idea.

But the thing is, if you can get yourself to just sit back and enjoy the ride, that’s when you "get it." Grab the popcorn, turn off the nit-picking, and just be. Two fun lead characters, an eccentric old kook of a wizard, a bad guy with a black heart, and plenty of magic to go ’round: what more could you want?

For now, the series is earning a solid 7 out of 10 from us – loosely translated, that’s "good, but with the potential to be so much better!" (But that poor chicken is never gonna be the same!! wink wink)

So what did you think of the first two episodes?

David Tennant Quits ‘Doctor Who’

The BBC has announced that Scottish actor Tennant will be leaving the long-running science fiction series "Doctor Who" in just over a year. Tennant has played the time and space traveling alien hero since 2005. He will appear in a Christmas special and four hour-long episodes to be aired in 2009 and early 2010. But he said Wednesday that when the series returns for a full season in 2010, "it won’t be with me."

"This show has been so special to me," Tennant said. "I don’t want to outstay my welcome."

"Doctor Who" was first broadcast in 1963 and is one of the longest-running Sci-Fi series in TV history and is one of the most popular programs on BBC. Tennant is the 10th actor to play the title character, who has the power to regenerate in a new body.

The classically trained Tennant, 37, is currently starring in Shakespeare’s "Hamlet" for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

So whats your thoughts on Tennent quiting? And who do you think should be a good the 11th Doctor?

Smallville’s Allison Mack, Interview Part 2

TVGuide.com: Were you at all embarrassed by the drama surrounding your decision to re-sign for all 22 episodes this season?
Allison Mack: Embarrassed? I don’t think I would use that word. It’s a decision that I took a lot of time to really look into, and I was really happy with the decision that I came to.

TVGuide.com: Well, by "embarrassed" I meant, "Ack, all this attention is on little ol’ me!"
Mack: Ah – are you kidding? I’m an actress, I love the attention. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Chloe fans, of course, want to see her and Clark continue to "Scooby" and investigate things together. Is some of that ahead this season?
Mack: Yeah, but not as much. You see more of Clark and Lois taking off a bit more, which is great. But while you don’t see as much of Clark and Chloe doing that, you’ll see them doing other things together. Their relationship is really changing.

TVGuide.com: I was reading the script for Episode 9, "Abyss," where we flash back to Chloe and Clark’s first kiss, in the farmhouse hayloft. How was it watching your "young" selves film that scene?
Mack: I saw them shooting that scene just the other day…. It was adorable. Adorable. They even have the little girl playing Chloe in like a traditional old-school Chloe wig, with my funky haircut, the whole deal. It’s very cute.

TVGuide.com: She has a great line about kissing her new friend "just to get it out of the way."
Mack: Yeah, so it wouldn’t be awkward. It was very, very cute. It was these great little actors from Vancouver.

TVGuide.com: Is Chloe heading back to the "Daily Planet" anytime soon?
Mack: I miss the "Daily Planet"! I haven’t been on that set in ages…. Chloe’s working at [The] Isis [Foundation] pretty much full-time now, working for Lana.

TVGuide.com: What can you tease about the "fever letter" resurfacing in this week’s episode?
Mack: Oh, there’s definitely some drama that arises because of Jimmy and that letter….

TVGuide.com: Drama that brings about a shift in their relationship?
Mack: Potentially….

TVGuide.com: Episode 10, "Bride," is rumored to be chock full of interesting stuff. And you are the bride.
Mack: I haven’t read that script yet, so I don’t really know what’s in it. But I’m assuming that it’s going to be chock full of everything.

TVGuide.com: There are rumors that Chloe will die, that she’ll be brought back to life, that there won’t even be a wedding….
Mack: Oh really? [Laughs] I think that there is a wedding, because we’re doing a lot of fittings for dresses right now.

TVGuide.com: And how has that been?
Mack: Um, weird! Totally bizarre. It was strange, like the proposal scene where I was like, "Don’t get down on your knees! Stand up! I’m not dealing with this [sort of stuff in real life] yet!" [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Seeing yourself in a bridal gown, did the girl inside you go, "Awww…. I’m so pretty!"
Mack: No, that’s not really my thing. I’ve never really been interested or into that, weddings and the bridal concept. So really, it just feels a bit strange more than anything.

TVGuide.com: Did you ever get to see the comic-book rendition of Chloe? [DC Comics had planned to feature Chloe in a Superman story at some point, but later changed its mind.]
Mack: They had me sign off on the image, and it was cool! It’s kind of wacky to think that DC owns an image of me at this time in my life, and that any time Chloe might be used, it will be in my likeness. I’m flattered.

TVGuide.com: In what ways did comic-book Chloe differ from TV’s Chloe?
Mack: Oh…. Bigger boobs. [Laughs] That’s pretty much the main thing.

TVGuide.com: But not, like, ridiculously bigger….
Mack: Nooo, not ridiculously bigger. But bigger.

TVGuide.com: You don’t have a television, but if you did watch TV….
Mack: If I were to watch DVD sets, I really like Mad Men; that’s an amazing show. And I got really into The Sopranos there for a little while.

TVGuide.com: How else do you like to spend your free time?
Mack: Mmmm…. [Distracted] Sorry, I’m eating chocolate ─ how rude! So… one answer would be "eating chocolate"! [Laughs] I do a lot of traveling, and I’m very into the arts, so any time there’s a dance show or a gallery opening, I’m into all different sorts of things.

Cartoon Network Axe’s “Toonami”

What is sad is that this once great weekday block, which used to hold all of our favorite anime (at that time) was shoved into a Saturday evening retirement home to live out the rest of its life to entertain drunks, and grounded children.

Below is a video of Toonami signing off for the last time. Take a look at it, it just breaks the heart.
